Sterling Silver British Army Searchlight

Silver scale model of a British Army Military 90cm Searchlight on an ebonized wooden base. On one side is the Cap Badge of the Royal Engineers, and on the other side is the Royal Artillery Cap Badge.

These 90cm searchlights were powered by a lister generator and used a "carbon-arc" light to produce 200 million candle power beam of light that could cover 5 miles. Fitted with four small tank tracks, they were easy to manoeuvre on all terrain and could be towed by trucks whilst providing a sturdy platform.

On the front of the base is a plaque that reads:
Presented to Captain R. J. Copper, MBE, RE(V) by all ranks, past and present, of 873 movement light Squadron Royal Engineers (V) on the occasion of his retirement from the Army. 19 January 1983 - 22 October 1980.

Silver by London Silversmiths Garrard & Co Dated 1980
