WALTER LINDNER – Works on Paper
After a successful exhibition of works on paper by Berlin based artist’s at our summer fair, archivist/gallerist Simon Hearnden returns with a stunning new solo selection of accomplished monotype originals, artist litho editions, etchings and archive edition digital prints by the enigmatic Walter Lindner (1936-2007).
After completing degreesat both the leading Berlin Arts Universities in the 1950s, Walter Lindner became a senior graphic designer at Siemens Berlin advertising department, before embarking on a solo career in the mid 60s.
During the subsequent decades Lindner worked obsessively, perfecting his technique, hand-pressing monotype prints onto parchment from glass plates that he painted with oils - the basis for his striking original works. Approved unique prints were then embellished, often elaborately, sometimes with pen and ink and often gold leaf. Significantly collectors and artists also enjoy the striking effects Lindner managed to achieve whilst continually experimenting with just how ink works on paper.
Lindner exhibited annually at the Frankfurt International Art Fair for 40 years, longer than any other artist. He was considered an outstanding talent, by both his university tutors and fellow artists. Exhibitions of his work in the Berlin and Brandenburg regions were successful in the 70s and 80s, but Lindner was a gentle man and a reluctant publicist.
Walter Lindner original works and print editions remain affordable, despite the increasing interest in his work.
