Walker was born in Edinburgh. Her secondary education was at Brondesbury in London, where she was taught drawing by Hector Caffierti. Following secondary school, Walker attended the Ridley School of Art followed by the Westminster School of Art in London. In around 1893 she attended the Slade and she also took evening painting classes with Walter Sickert. She painted mainly flower-pieces, sea-pieces and decorative compositions and her work shows the influence of Impressionism, Gauguin and Asian art.
