'Seven Geese' 1977 Oil on canvas Provenance: Waddington Tooth London - Peter Kinley -Recent paintings 1975-78 Herbert Krull Esq, Private Collection UK In 1971, Kinley moved to the Wiltshire countryside and from this time animals appeared frequently in his works, sheep, cows, rabbits and dogs. Kinley owned two geese so he would have seen them every day. A painting, ‘Two Geese’ 1980 is in the Walker Art Gallery collection and another exists of ‘Four Geese’ painted in 1979. These later paintings are very different from his early works of the 1960’s, the paint is thinner and the treatment of subjects is on a flat plane, though noticeable in this painting are the foreground geese which are larger than the four at the top, suggesting distance. Kinley’s paintings are often deceptive in their apparent child like simplicity.
