Winter Fine Art & Antiques Fair, Olympia
14 - 20 November 2011
Collectors, trade and international visitors were among the 23,540 people who flocked to the 21st Winter Fine Art & Antiques Fair, Olympia 2011, eager to get their hands on the finest art and antiques on offer from the 125 assembled dealers.
Here are some of the highlights from this year’s fair
Wick Antiques Ltd exhibited an extraordinary Amboyna side cabinet, attributed to Holland and Sons circa 1860. The central panelled door is separated from side cupboards by pillars in exotic timbers including lacewood, palm, sycamore and rosewood with penwork detailing.
From Christopher and Angela Legge we found a rare Bakhtiari rug with striking colours and an unusual border, the corners are adorned with images of mountain lions who were often seen as a symbol of Iran in the 19th century.
A stylish black and cream bakerlite cocktail shaker from the 1930s was found with Jeroen Markies. When twisted, the sliding menu labels lid reveals recipes for cocktails such as the Manhattan, Whisky Sours and the Dry Martini.
From Timothy Millett we had a Victorian ceremonial throne with a royal V.R. carving which would have more than likely been used for a royal visit, dated at around Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee circa 1887.
